R. Barnes Whitlock, CPA

Barney Whitlock has more than 40 years of experience in public accounting with an emphasis on family business planning and estate and tax planning. He is one of the firm’s founding partners and served as managing partner in the 1980s.
He does financial planning for his clients, and he is in charge of tax services for firm clients in a variety of industries including retail distribution, public warehousing, financial institutions, manufacturing, cable television, real estate, and medical practices.
Barney’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
His professional and civic activities include membership in the American Institute of CPAs, Missouri Society of CPAs (past president of the Southwest Chapter), Missouri Sports Hall of Fame (secretary and Board of Directors), University of Missouri Alumni Association (National Governing Board of Directors, chair of the Legislative Information Network Committee, Board member of the Flagship Council and past president of the local chapter), Hickory Hills Country Club (past president of Board of Directors). He is also a past board member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, United Way, YMCA, Smith-Glynn-Callaway Medical Foundation and was a founding board member of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

What is your favorite event/moment at The Whitlock Company?
That would have to be June 1, 1985, the day we purchased the practice.
What do you hope to achieve at The Whitlock Company?
More fun – quality work is the center of our practice, but when employees enjoy what they are doing they perform better. We want our staff to look forward to being here.
What word would you use to describe The Whitlock Company?
Respect. We have worked hard to be well respected in our community, we respect our clients and we respect one another.
What is your favorite movie and why?
I’m not much of a movie person.
If you could live during any other period in history, when would you live and why?
Tomorrow always brings a better day, so the next 100 years.
What book are you reading right now?
None. I fall asleep.
Are you a cat person/dog person/neither and why?
Dogs. No matter what, they are always happy to see you.
Where would you like to travel and why?
Where it’s warm.
