IRS Opt-In Identity Protection Program Expanded

The Internal Revenue Service has rolled out an expanded IP PIN (Identity Protection Personal Identification Number) for eligible taxpayers. The IP PIN is a 6-digit number that helps prevent identity thieves from submitting forged tax returns with stolen Social Security numbers (SSNs). The program was previously only available to taxpayers who were victims of Identity Theft (IDT) but is now available to all eligible taxpayers. Additional information about the IP PIM including how to obtain one using the Get an IP PIN tool can be found on this publication from the IRS.
